Standing on a plateau above the left bastion of the port is the imposing bronze statue of Andreas Miaoulis (1769-1835), a great warrior during the Revolution of 1821. Standing with a ship’s wheel in one hand and his looking glass in the other, Miaoulis overlooks the sea, reminding us of his key role as admiral of the Greek fleet during its first years of independence.

Erected in 1993, its base is anchored above the admiral’s remains, which were transferred here from Piraeus, where he was originally buried.
