Also known as the “Great Church”, the historic metropolitan church of Aegina is an impressive three-aisled basilica with three domes. It is a three-story church, as the middle aisle is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin, the right aisle to Saint Dionysios, patron saint of Aegina, and the left aisle to Saint John Theologos. The Metropolis was built in1806 and its history is connected with the modern Greek state.
