The first games started in 1966 and since then it has hosted, in addition to the daily sporting events of professionals and amateurs, major sporting events, such as the World Cup (1979), the Mediterranean Games (1991), the European Seniors Tour (1999 to 2001) and the European Group Cup (2004).
