The Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi is located 4 km away from the center of Poros and dates back to the 18th century. It is built on a green slope and is a unique example of island monastic architecture. Its name comes from the island’s only spring, which according to tradition is known for its healing properties. The building is a typical example of monastic architecture of the islands. It dates from 1720 and was erected by the Archbishop of Athens, Iakovos the Second in a green hillside location, in a wonderful picturesque landscape. The Monastery is surrounded by a high wall and has a main gate and battlements at its top. Its Catholic Church is of the architectural type basilica with a dome. Inside, there are many elements of interest, mainly the episcopal throne and the wood-carved iconostasis of the 17th century. Today, it has developed into one of the most important attractions of the island.
