The Bouboulina Museum in Spetses was founded in 1991 by Filippos Demertzis-Bouboulis, a 5th generation descendant of Laskarina Bouboulina. The main objectives of the museum are the restoration and maintenance of the heroine’s mansion in Spetses, its operation as a museum and cultural centre, and the dissemination of the story of Laskarina Bouboulina. During a visit to the Bouboulina Museum, visitors can discover the history of the legendary captain and admire collections of weapons, old books, porcelain, documents and letters of the heroine, her personal items, maps, embroidery, busts, Byzantine icons, furniture and objects from the 17th to the 20th centuries. The museum also houses a magnificent Florentine carved ceiling in the Great Hall, the rescue of which was one of the main reasons for the creation of the Bouboulina Museum in 1991.
