MOMus-Alex Mylona Museum (Department of Contemporary Sculpture of MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art-Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and State Museum of Contemporary Art Collections) promotes sculptural expression, supports the synthesis of sculptural arts and interdisciplinary-hybrid projects, supports young sculptors and showcases and promotes the artistic contribution of Alex Mylona through the permanent presentation of her works.
The Metropolitan Organization of Museums of Visual Arts of Thessaloniki – MOMus was born from the merger of four museums/art spaces in Thessaloniki – the State Museum of Contemporary Art, the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, the Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki – and one in Athens, the Alex Mylona Museum. MOMus is a Legal Entity of Private Law based in Thessaloniki and is under the oversight of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports, whose legal form and purposes, administration, organization and operational issues of its directorates and services are described in its founding law (4572/2018). This project was the result of many years of effort, with the timeless goal of joining forces and sharing ambitions in the promotion of contemporary culture, in the city of Thessaloniki, in the country and internationally.
The permanent exhibition of the museum highlights the works of Alex Mylona, which include sculptures, watercolors, and drawings and depict the sculptor’s work over time. In addition to the permanent and temporary exhibitions, the Museum organizes events and educational programs, guided tours, lectures, workshops throughout the year.
