Institutional framework

According to Article 18, Par.1 of Law 4179/2013, "A 'National Observatory for Sustainable Tourism Development' is established in the Ministry of Tourism, falling under the Department of Tourism Statistics of the Research Directorate of the General Directorate for Tourism Policy of the Ministry of Tourism (National Observatory). The purpose of the National Observatory is to utilize the data and findings of the Tourism Satellite Account, to study the tourism market and to present findings, with the aim of supporting evidence-based interventions for its proper functioning and to propose targeted development measures in the tourism sector, with the goal of highlighting all thematic areas of the domestic tourism product."
