How often do you find a vast coastline of stunning beauty that offers enchanting interchanging landscapes and fascinating experiences… literally a few minutes away from a European capital? The Attica Riviera, the jewel of south Attica, is here to prove that heaven is not too far away.
Let’s go on a road trip with the blue of the sea and the sky as a background, swimming, and diving into crystal waters just outside Athens, where summer never ends!
In less than 30 minutes from the centre of Athens, we arrive at a landscape that makes us wonder whether we are still on the mainland or a beautiful island. Blue flag shores overlook the Saronic Gulf, so unique and diverse that satisfy any preference.
Do you prefer organized beaches with facilities and comfort or secluded and quiet coves, with the shade of trees and the sound of waves in the background? Do you enjoy water sports and adrenaline activities by the sea? Would you rather relax on a sunbed, with music, snacks, and refreshing drinks? Did you choose to come here with your other half, with a group of friends, or with your family and children?
Along the Attica Riviera, you will find exactly what you seek, not in one but in a multitude of beaches. The whole coastline that starts from Paleo Faliro and reaches the Cape of Sounio features shores with sand or pebbles, coves and bays, and beaches with sea caves or rocks, for diving into the turquoise waters.
Our… beach hopping along the Attica Riviera starts in Glyfada, one of the most beautiful and cosmopolitan suburbs of Athens. Here, we will relax at the awarded Blue Flags beaches of Asteras Glyfadas, Glyfada A, and Glyfada B – organized and sandy, with wonderful waters and… an atmosphere taken from the pages of a lifestyle magazine!
We continue to Kavouri, one of the most beautiful free beaches in Attica, located in Vouliagmeni Municipality, which features a lush landscape and a long shore that combines gravel and sand, ideal for beach sports.
A few meters away, the majestic suburb of Vouliagmeni awaits us with its Blue Flag beaches, for delightful swimming in crystal waters. We relax and enjoy the stunning scenery, on sandy beaches or at the Limanakia coves, diving from the rocks into the extraordinary blue-green waters of the area. If you prefer the still waters of a… lake, here you will find a breathtaking sight of unique natural beauty, the famous Vouliagmeni Lake with its healing natural springs.
We have a stop at Lagonissi, at the free organized beach of the area, which caters to everyone: sandy shore with umbrellas for the necessary shade, shallow waters and lifeguard for family carefreeness, and beach volleyball court for the active ones. We cool off with an iced sorbet drink and move on…
Thymari boasts shores and beaches for all preferences, organized and free. We pick the small beach right after Palea Fokea. A part of it has a calm sea and attracts families and those who prefer to swim in… smooth waters, while those who prefer privacy opt for the small pebbled bay.
Not far from Sounion, following a truly majestic route right by the sea, we stop for a swim at the wonderful beach of Harakas, sandy and with shallow waters, which is never… crammed with people, since it is one of the longest beaches in Attica!
We saved the best for last: the breathtaking beach in Legrena, right before Sounion. Here, things are straightforward: crystal clear, deep-blue waters, the sound of waves, the unobstructed view of the Saronic Gulf, and the ultimate relaxation compose a scenery that takes you on a mental journey.
