The Armata Festival is an annual event held on the island of Spetses, Greece. It commemorates the historic naval battle that took place in 1822 during the Greek War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire. The highlight of the festival is the re-enactment of the burning of the Turkish flagship, which is a spectacular sight to behold, followed by a fireworks display.
Spetses is one of eight European cities that are part of the European Network of Historical Reconstructions. Other cities include Brussels in Belgium, Dublin and Cork in Ireland, Bailen in Spain, Slavkov in the Czech Republic, Tewksbury in the UK, and Hydra in Greece.
The festival takes place during the second weekend of September and attracts thousands of tourists who come to witness the unique atmosphere and experience the festivities.
