The National Research Foundation is a private, non-profit institution, promoting multi-disciplinary research in the sciences and humanities.

Situated on Thoukididou Street, this two-storey stone mansion was originally built in the 1700s, during the Ottoman period and is one of few surviving buildings of its era.

Due to the sheer size of the completed mansion, the manor quickly gained the reputation as the largest and most expensive private building of the era.

Built in 1929, the Girls’ High School was based on plans by distinguished Greek architect, Nikolaos Mitsakis.

An important example of Eclecticism, the five-floor building follows all modern trends of the time, incorporating many Art Deco elements.

This was the home of politician Kyriakoulis Mavromichalis, named after his famous grandfather, leader of the Revolution of 1821.

The Kleanthi-Schaubert or the Old University, is in a high part of Plaka, in Tholou Street and is a very old building (probably from the 17th century).
