Assumption Day or the Dormition of the Mother of God is a Great Feast of the Greek Orthodox, Church and Greece. It celebrates the “falling asleep” of Mary the Theotokos, and her being taken up into heaven.

It is celebrated on August 15th as the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God, also known as “Dekapentavgoustos”.
