The Spetses mini Marathon (SMM) started in 2011 and this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. It was that year that the founder and organizer, Marina Koutarelli, put into practice her idea for a pioneering sports event in the province. In these ten years of constant effort and improvement of the organization by Marina Koutarelli and her team, the race has taken on global dimensions, as it hosts athletes from 42 different countries and has rightly been called a “station” in Sports Tourism. Now, the Spetses mini Marathon gathers every year more participants, as well as visitors, with the most recent number reaching 18,000 travellers to the island of Spetses and even in the off-season.

The importance and success of the Spetses mini Marathon is proven by the fact that it has become an institution – a landmark for the local community of Spetses, which it has instilled with new values. He has breathed new life into it, supporting it economically, socially and culturally. The relationship has been two-way from the first moment, with the people of Speciots having embraced the SMM as an integral part of the life of the island, not only during its period but throughout the year. Led by the Municipality of Spetses, the volunteers and organizations of the island are essentially helping in this great effort, both of the SMM and the Triathlon (Spetsathlon).

The Organizing Committee, sponsors, volunteers, great professionals and amateur athletes have put their signature on this evolution of the institution. The Spetses mini Marathon, faithful to the dictates of the times and the needs of its participants, will continue to evolve to stay at the top.
