Aegina is an island located in the Saronic Gulf and is known for its endless summer. Even in the autumn season, the weather is mild enough for visitors to indulge in swimming and sunbathing at any of the island’s beautiful beaches. Aegina also offers fresh seafood that can be enjoyed in the water-side ouzo bars.
The Aegina Fistiki Fest is a popular tradition organized by the Municipality of Aegina, under the auspices of the Regional Unit of the Saronic Islands. The festival takes place at the island’s port and has over 60 booths along the pier serving pistachios in various forms. Visitors can taste fresh, roasted, salted or unsalted, and sweetened pistachios, as well as a range of pastries, spoon sweets, chocolate creations, and more. Local products such as honey and cheeses, clay artefacts, handmade jewellery, and much more are also available for sale.
The success of the Aegina Fistiki Fest depends heavily on the cooperation between pistachio and other local producers, as well as on the contribution of the artists and volunteers coordinated by its organizing committee. The Festival also features traditional singing and dancing, theatrical shows, seminars, and guided tours of local museums and archaeological sites.
Gastronomy is also a significant part of the festival, with famous chefs cooking incredible culinary dishes right before your eyes. Many of these dishes feature pistachios, which are a PDO product. In the Gastronomy Corner, visitors can find the famous Aegina pistachios and various delectable recipes.
