Center for the Study and Promotion of Asia Minor Culture

The Centre for the Study and Promotion of the Culture of Asia Minor is a legal entity under public law of the Municipality of Nea Ionia in Attica. It was founded in 2003 with the aim of collecting, rescuing, preserving and transmitting the elements of the history and culture of the Greeks of the entire east and in particular of Asia Minor, Pontus, Eastern Thrace and Constantinople. The collection, classification, study and use of archival material relating to Nea Ionia is also one of its main objectives. In order to achieve these aims, it organises special committees for the collection of data and documents, the operation of the library and museums, the organisation of conferences and events, the implementation of educational programmes aimed at students and young people, the publication of related works, scientific research on religion, language, morals and customs, traditions, written monuments, works of art, temples and houses and, in general, any element related to the culture of the Hellenism of 1922 in these places. The Centre is housed in restored buildings of old factories, where it has also developed the Museums of History, Folklore and Textiles - Tapestry, which are open every day from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 13:00 p.m., except Sundays and holidays (unless a visit is scheduled). In these areas, visitors are welcome for a tour and exchange of views, for donations of objects, documents, photographs and general memorabilia of a museum nature, and for recording, taping and filming testimonies.
