The first Evangelical Church in Athens was built in 1871, opposite the Pillars of Olympian Zeus, at the junction of Lysikratous Street and Amalia Avenue. The construction of the Church was the culmination of the Protestant community’s efforts to establish itself in Greek society – the community was actually founded in 1858 by the doctor Michael Kalapotakis. In the simple marble building of the church, a variety of religious, charitable and more broadly secular activities of the Protestant community of Greece are developed. The most important of these are: the Bach Festival and the Christmas Festival. Two festivals that are now organized in the original performance space of this kind of music.
