G. Gounaropoulos Museum

The G. Gounaropoulos Museum was founded in 1979 and opened a year later, on 8 February 1980. Housed in the house-workshop of the painter Giorgos Gounaropoulos in Ano Ilisia, it contains over forty oil paintings and drawings by the artist, items from his personal archive and objects from his daily life. The building and works were donated to the Municipality of Zografou by the artist's son, Ilias Gounaropoulos. The main purpose of the museum is to present the artist's work to the general public. The Center consists of three rooms: the "Giorgos Gounaropoulos Room", in which temporary exhibitions of painting, sculpture, photography, etc. are held, the "Stratis Tsirkas Room", where the author's publications and personal belongings are exhibited. The hall is also used for temporary exhibitions and the "Giorgos Pavlatos Room", where lectures, screenings, etc. are organized. Finally, the Museum offers educational programs with activities specially designed for all levels of education and all ages.
