The Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (UNESCO, 2003), which was ratified by Greece in 2006, declared intangible heritage as part of the overall cultural heritage together with the policies that were implemented for its study, preservation and promotion.
By way of explanation, the concept of cultural heritage includes “the entire spirit of people, in terms of its values, actions, works, institutions, monuments and sites” UNESCO (2005), including a series of characteristics and elements, which we intend to preserve, highlight and protect from its natural, built environment, as well as intangible assets of high spiritual, historical, religious and symbolic value.
It is underlined that this section’s points of interest do not have an exclusive geographical designation, however, the area in which they can be identified is indicated.
