Hatzopouleios Municipal Library

The permanent exhibition "Shells & the Sea" is housed on the ground floor of the Hatzopouleios Municipal Library. The exhibition has been installed and curated on behalf of the Municipality of Poros by the Department of Historical Geology and Palaeontology of the University of Athens, using the shell collection of the same name kindly donated by Giorgos and Helga Kanellakis. The museum exhibition is enriched with some geological, volcanological and archaeological elements, mainly from the South Aegean area, provided by the University of Athens for its completion, as well as a series of scientific photographic images of the surrounding seabed. The exhibition is thematic and museum-like and, according to the official available data, no other exhibition on the shell has been presented in Greece, at least until now, with such completeness in terms of subject matter, scientific perfection and wealth of images and information.
