The Markopoulo Olympic Equestrian Center was completed in 2003 and hosted the 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Games. It covers an area of 940,000 square meters with work rooms, permanent viewing stands, parking, and competition areas.

It also has a 5,710m long Cross Country Trail with 35 obstacles, an Equestrian Triathlon training area, a stable complex with the capacity to host 280 horses, and it has a fully equipped veterinary clinic jointly with the Athens Racecourse.
