Crossing Kotzia Square, passengers pass an important archaeological site in the center of Athens. The archaeological site of Kotzia Square includes several important findings from the outer fortifications of the ancient city, such as the 3 ancient roads that converged at the adjacent gates. The most important was the one that led from Acharnes to the foot of Mount Parnitha in the city.
Other finds from the area include an extensive cemetery, which was in use for more than 1.200 years, pottery workshops and many remains of dwellings. All of these findings provide valuable evidence of the daily life in Ancient Athens, from the Geometric to the Late Roman Period. They provide a very wide range of information about the activities of Athenians in their domestic lives, in the Agora, about their occupations and even about their funeral habits.
