National Gymnasium of Athens- I. Fokianos

The National Gymnasium of Athens was founded at the end of the 19th century. In 1879, Ioannis Fokianos was appointed as the director and due to his very important contribution to the integration of gymnastics into the compulsory program of secondary education. The National Gymnasium of Athens was renamed "National Gymnasium of Athens - I. Fokianos" in honor of Ioannis Fokianos. It is located in the Zappeion area of Athens, opposite the Panathenaic Stadium. Its facilities include buildings of approximately 1000 square meters, sports areas, offices, locker rooms, storage and other auxiliary spaces, and an open outdoor area of approximately 3 acres. The gymnasium operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports.
