With more than 330 days of sunny spells, temperatures over 30 degrees even from May until late September and a lengthy coastline, Attica is a true heaven for swimmers and sea lovers.
As a hint, in 2023, the Blue Flag prize was awarded to 17 beaches within the Region of Attica. Brexiza and Schinias in the Municipality of Marathon; the wide beach of Loutsa with its shallow and warm waters; a beach at the special wetland of Limni in the Municipality of Artemida; Avlaki in the Municipality of Markopoulo-Mesogaia, a perfect choice for all ages; the 1st Limanaki at Daskalio of Keratea in the Municipality of Lavreotiki with its quaint beauty; 3 beaches at Lagonisi and Mavro Lithari in the Municipality of Saronikos; Agia Marina on the island of Aegina. Beaches very close to Athens center are of no exception; three beaches in the suburb of Glyfada, as well as Asteras, Voula and Vouliagmeni.
Blue Fag awarded beaches are not but a tiny part of the countless options for those wishing to spend their day in Attica by the sea. Limanakia coves at Vouliagmeni, hidden along Poseidonos Avenue and KAPE beach at Legraina stand out for their island-like feeling. Enjoy a unique experience at Agios Petros in Sounio, and swim while gazing up at the Temple of Poseidon.
Going northeast, Zoumperi and Nea Makri beaches are ideal options for families, while water sports maniacs may practice along several beaches in the same area. Adrenaline is your thing? Try rock-diving at Dikastika beach in the area of Schinias.
In the west, the area of Kineta, with its namesake beach, has been for decades the most loved summer resort for the Athenians. The Attica part bound by the Corinthian Gulf waters should not be neglected. Prosili beach at Porto Germano is like a vivid postcard from the 70s.
Of course, beautiful beaches can be found on the islands of Attica. In Aegina for example, apart from the famous Agia Marina beach, mentioned above, you can sail from Perdika port to Moni islet, a breathtaking beach with cyan colorings. The choices are too many and satisfy all tastes.
Beaches are a true asset for the island of Poros, whilst their proximity enables visitors to hop on all and swim in their – sometimes emerald-green sometimes bright blue – waters again and again. Most of the sun-lounger equipped beaches are at the southern part of the island, deployed along both sides of Chora.
In Spetses, Agia Paraskevi beach with its picturesque chapel is a must-go. Pines touching the sea, big pebbles, lucid waters and sun-loungers.
Raw and spiritual, the sceneries of Kythera make a difference. From north to south, choose from countless small or bigger bays among the rocks and let the beauty of the island blow up your mind. High rocks, downslopes, piscine-like coves and crystalline waters compose a true heaven on earth.
When in Hydra, visit Kaminia, the famous pebbled beach, accessed on foot through a lovely path. Feeling adventurous? 1-2-3 and jump off the rocks at Spilia beach!
However, the beaches of Agistri are those which really stand out. Aponisos, Dragonera, Megalochori, Xekofti and too many others, with azure waters and exotic vibes. It’s too hard to believe that you are just an hour away from the Port of Piraeus.
With the summer being just around the corner, Attica is prepared to welcome you on its exquisite beaches and create memorable and unique moments for you.
