Aeschylia Festival
The major cultural festival of Elefsina.
Aeschylia 2021 includes strictly selected events of high aesthetics and quality, performances, concerts, art installations and film screenings. In particular, the visual installation “Behind the Theater” by Andreas Lolis, is held in co-organization with Elefsina 2023, European Capital of Culture, as is the dance performance “OMMA” by Josef Nadj.
The visual artist Andreas Lolis spoke about the visual installation he will present: “For every artist, Elefsina is a challenge. There is what is seen and what is not seen and my role as an artist was based on that. Seeing many special places in Eleusis, I stopped at some that probably had not been approached by other artists. So, I came up with the idea of a dig. The space behind the theatre of the Old Olive Oil is suitable for this. It is an innocent space, as it has not been worked on much and has no restrictions. The project you will see in Elefsina is one of the most important operations I have done in open spaces. I hope you all enjoy it and I would like it to stay in Elefsina as a good memory.”
The events will take place in the Old Olive Mill, a space that has been inextricably linked to Aeschylia and has been loved by the art-loving public, which this year is being configured with the necessary gaps so that the safety distances between the spectators are met. In fact, the ticket is reduced from 12 to 10 euros, per person, as an even greater effort is made, so that the public can reconnect with culture, after a long period of abstinence.
The program of the Aeschylia Festival 2021 features important composers, singers, and people of song, such as Dimitra Galani, Yiannis Kotsiras, Sokratis Malamas, Natassa Bofiliou, Themis Karamouratidis, Gerasimos Evaggelatos, Fotini Darra, Dimitris Zervoudakis, Georgia Tagaki, etc.
Also, performances that are expected to be discussed this summer, several of which come from the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, such as: “Orestis”, “Phoenisses” (National Theatre), “Chickens” (KTHBE), “Horsemen” (National Theatre), “Antigone” (Simeio Miden Group), “Bacchus” (DIPETHE Ioannina/Ars Aeterna), “Friendly Society-The Brotherhood behind the Revolution” (directed by Iolis Andreadis), “The Scarecrow’s Dream” (children’s theatre Yannis Papathanasiou).
