The famous Armata Festival takes place from the 1st till the 8th of September at the Old Harbor of Spetses, reenacting the island’s Naval Battle of the 8th of September 1822, which was part of the Greek War of Independence against the Ottomans.
The festival includes a variety of celebrations occurring throughout the week, such as traditional dances, theatrical performances, exhibitions, presentations and other artistic events, before the festivities end with the massive firework display and the burning of a model of the Turkish ship, built every year especially for the occasion.
