The Archaeological Museum of Brauron is located just 200m from the archaeological site of the Sanctuary of Brauronia Artemis, one of the most important ancient sanctuaries of Attica. In the new permanent exhibition, according to the modern museological and museographic methods, the rich and varied findings from the excavation of the sanctuary of Brauronia, as well as antiquities from the wider area of Mesogaia, are displayed.
The exhibition presents the history of Brauronia (prehistoric settlements and the ancient municipality of Filaidon), the monuments of the Sanctuary of Artemis and the wider area of Brauronia, the traditions related to the foundation of the sanctuary, the worship and attributes of the goddess, as well as the history of Mesogaia through the presentation of excavations in representative municipalities. The exhibition space is one level and includes the vestibule, five rooms and an atrium. The Museum also houses the warehouses for the safekeeping of antiquities and the laboratories for the preservation of metal, ceramic and stone finds.
