Flambouri Mountaineering Shelter

In the green fir forest of Parnitha, in the village of Flambouri and at an altitude of 1,158 metres, is the shelter "Flambouri" of the Mountaineering Association of Acharnes. With a magnificent view of the peaks of Evia and the Peloponnese, the gulfs of Evia and Corinth, and the basin of Attica, it is an ideal destination for a one-day or multi-day excursion for individuals, families and children. Many hiking routes start or end at the Flambouri shelter, making it an excellent place to stop for a meal, a drink or even an overnight stay. The refuge was created in 1981 from a small abandoned army building on the top of Flambouri (1.158 m.) of Parnitha by the Mountaineering Association of Acharnes with a lot of personal work and donations, as well as financial support from the General Secretariat for Sport (G.S.S.). Accordingly, the smaller "Flambouraki" building, managed directly by the Mountaineering Association of Acharnes , was completed in 1986. The environmentally friendly Flambouri shelter has been electrified since 1985 with photovoltaic panels that recharge batteries with solar energy. It is heated by an energy fireplace that heats the radiators and also acts as an air heater, contributing to practical environmental protection. It has an organised kitchen and offers coffee, drinks, handmade village pies, traditional homemade dishes, roasts, salads and sweets. It is also possible to spend the night (30 people can be accommodated) on the upper floor of the shelter, in a comfortable and warm room with a wooden floor, designed for a refreshing and restful sleep. The shelter operates under the auspices of the organization Parnitha Shelters. The "small shelter" of the Mountaineering Association of Acharnes, named "VASILIS NIKAS" is located next to the Flambouri Shelter in Parnitha, on the top of Flambouri (1.158 m.). It can accommodate 10 people. It has 2 bedrooms with bunk beds, a living room with a fireplace, an equipped kitchen with gas cooker, a toilet, a wood store and the best balcony with a view of almost all Attica and beyond. It was renamed to "VASILIS NIKAS" Shelter, by the unanimous decision of the Board of Directors, in memory of the late Honorary President of the Association, VASILIS NIKAS. The small shelter is under the management of the Mountaineering Association of Acharnes
