Kypseli Municipal Market

The historic building was built in 1935 on Fokionos Negri Street in the Kypseli area and is a typical example of Athens Modernism. For decades, until 2003, it was used as a food market and at the same time as a commercial and social center. Threatened with demolition several times, it was saved after protests and mobilizations by the residents of Kypseli. Subsequently, and since 2009, the residents' assembly has formed a self-managed space. In 2012, on the initiative of the Municipality of Athens, it was renovated with EU funding. Since 2015, after an open meeting of the residents and proposals submitted in the following years, the conditions have been created so that in 2017, with the Municipality of Athens as the owner of the building, Impact Hub Athens will take over the management of the space, where now the Municipal Market of Kypseli, in addition to being a "special" market with dozens of shops, aims to become a meeting and reference point for the Athenian public, with the main axes of culture and education, but also social innovation and entrepreneurship and the strengthening of the local economy. This new model is applied for the first time in a public building and is non-profit. The main goal is to make the space familiar and open to the neighborhood and its people, creating a truly open market that functions as an active community that produces and innovates while revitalizing the surrounding urban landscape. The Agora, a historical site in the heart of the city, hosts more than 50,000 visitors every year in more than 300 events: festivals, concerts, exhibitions, performances, screenings, seminars, workshops, corporate meetings, presentations and speeches. The Agora is an open, protected space with a unique atmosphere in a historic Athenian neighborhood. The space is open daily in the form of an "urban living room", while at the same time it has the ability to support all types of events such as festivals, food fairs, live cooking, screenings, speeches, fashion shows, performances & exhibitions, making them accessible to a special audience, but also to the "regulars" of the venue and the area. The outdoor area of the Municipal Market of Kypseli, 381 m² and with a capacity of up to 1000 people is an excellent example of a public building of the inter-war period, renovated and fully equipped, offering high standards and services for the organization of your corporate event. In particular, the market and especially its central area are suitable for: •Festivals • Corporate Events • Conferences, workshops, speeches • Markets (Bazaar, Garage Sales-style) • Fashion Shows • Children's, corporate & themed parties • Art & Photography Exhibitions • Seminars, workshops •Concerts • Urban Retreats (yoga, pilates etc). • Theatrical & Musical Performances - Commercial Shoots
