Port of Zea – Pasalimani

The Port of Zea or Pasalimani, located on the east coast of the Piraiki Peninsula, combines a modern marina with a place for recreation and entertainment. Its two names are interesting as the ancient Greeks gave it the name Zea because of its superiority as a port, just as they considered the "Zea" grain superior to all others. In modern times, during the Turkish conquest, it was called Pasalimani, according to one version; the Pasha of Piraeus had given this port to his harem. The most likely version, however, is that the port was only accessible to Turkish ships. Zea is now the center of entertainment activity in Piraeus and one of the most popular places for entertainment, also known as Pasalimani. The coastal road Tryfonos-Moutsopoulou is full of restaurants, cafes and department stores, but the large Kanari Square, located on Grigoriou Lambrakis Street opposite the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, is the place that gathers the most people all year round, thanks to the many cafes. In Zea, there is the Avlaia Theater, the Ancient Theater of Piraeus and large private clinics.
