Athens Olympic Museum

The Athens Olympic Museum marks a new destination in culture and sports. Visitors can take a tour of a state-of-the-art venue and experience a fascinating journey into the history of the Olympic Games, through a chronological narrative from antiquity to modern glamorous events.

The Museum displays great stations of the Olympic Ideal, the role of Greece, but also of Greek athletes. The Greek events of the Olympic Games (ancient Olympia, Athens 1896, Athens 2004) are highlighted through major stations of the exhibition along with information about the Principles and Values of the Olympic Movement and are framed by snapshots and personal items of Olympic and Paralympic athletes who made history.

The Museum’s exhibition is characterized by a balanced mix of exhibits, items and souvenirs that arouse interest and excite the visitor at every step. Through the architectural prism of modernism and the minimalism of interior design, the history of the Games is revived.

With the contribution of digital media and state-of-the-art technology, as well as authentic items, the tour of the Museum is an impressive and at the same time unforgettable educational experience.

Its educational goal is to communicate the Principles of Olympism to the young generations, to introduce them to the athletes, the heroes of the Olympic Movement, inspire them, and encourage them to get interested with Sports and the Greek and International History.

In addition, the Museum hosts the periodic Mixed Reality Exhibition “Ancient Olympia: Common Grounds”. Through artificial intelligence one can see Ancient Olympia digitally, as it was at its peak 2,000 years ago.

The Athens Olympic Museum was created on the initiative of Lamda Development S.A. with the aim of housing a significant part of the country’s Olympic heritage, but also to highlight the unique contribution of Greece in the formation of the Olympic Movement and Athens as the Olympic Capital.

The Museum is a member of the Olympic Museums Network (ΟΜΝ) under the aegis of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)

In the official shop of the Athens Olympic Museum there are objects inspired by the exhibition, the history of Sports and the Olympic Games that will become favorite symbols of everyday life.
