The Eleftherios Venizelos Museum was founded in 1984 and opened to the public on 30 March 1986. It is housed in an independent building next to the Art Centre in Eleftheria Park. The main core of its collections comes from the material collected by the Cretans Zacharias Makatounis and his son Antonios, who donated it to the Municipality of Athens for the purpose of establishing a museum.
The exhibition material is presented on the two floors of the building and includes personal belongings of Eleftherios Venizelos, evidence of events that happened from his birth to his death, documents, forms, photographs and letter cards, as well as portraits and depictions of him in various materials. It is also equipped with audio-visual material, which offers detailed information and includes excerpts from Venizelos’ speeches, as well as a traditional song recorded by him. The Museum has a Library with books about the life and work of Eleftherios Venizelos.
