Acropolis Museum

The Acropolis Museum, one of the most important in the world, includes unique masterpieces, mainly original works of archaic and classical Greek art, which are directly connected to the sacred rock of the Athenian Acropolis. These are free sculptures which were given as a tribute to the gods, as well as sets of architectural sculptures that decorated the buildings which had built in various historical periods on the Acropolis. Its exhibition sections also include reliefs in pieces or reliefs which were given as a tribute to the gods, clay objects such as vessels, figurines and reliefs as well as other types of small art such as bronze figurines which were given as a tribute to the gods and utensils. A part of the sculpted bronze objects and vessels were transferred from the National Archaeological Museum where they were kept. The inscribed works (bases which were given as a tribute to the gods, honorary parts, lists of the vows of the goddess Athena, building inscriptions of Erechtheion) were transferred from the Epigraphic Museum and the coins (""treasures"") from the Numismatic Museum of Athens. The gap in the Acropolis Museum of the original sculptures of the Parthenon, which are in European Museums and University collections (British Museum, Louvre, etc.) is significant. The Acropolis Museum and its activities are inextricably linked to the archaeological site and the restoration works carried out on the monuments of the rock and hills of the Acropolis.
