Stone Clock Zea

One of the most important sights of Piraeus is the stone clock of Zea on the green elliptical median, located at the junction of Lambraki Street and Moutsopoulou Street, next to Kanari Square, known as "egg" (avgo) because of its shape. It is one of the many clocks that decorate the streets of Piraeus. The clock was built in 1940, during the mayoralty of Michalis Manouskou, with a budget of 117 million drachmas allocated by the Metaxas government for the redevelopment of the center of Piraeus. In the post-war period, the area around the Stone Clock was a popular meeting place for many decades, until it was moved to the neighboring Kanari Square in recent years.
