Filomoussos Etaireia square is in the heart of Plaka took its name from the Philharmonic Society, which was determined to restore culture in Athens during the Ottoman occupation. Remaining active until 1826, the Philharmonic Society not only offered many educational services, but also served at the battle of Athens.

Today plenty of bars, cafes, ouzo joints and restaurants surrounding the square attract a constant stream of tourists and younger Athenians. Directly opposite the square’s cinema is the old summer cinema, Cine Paris, a truly unique theatre experience.

The square is decorated with busts of journalist and writer Dimitrios Kabouroglou and composer Nikos Chatziapostolou.
