Named after an ancient marble column discovered at this site in the 19th century, Kolonaki Square is where a number of the city’s major commercial streets converge and is home to exclusive stores, first-rate restaurants, cafes, and bars and glamourous clubs.

Athenian tradition has it that when the city suffered from a plague during the Ottoman occupation, the citizens held a procession to appease the “evil” by raising one of the numerous ancient columns scattered throughout the area.
