The Duchess of Placentia bought a large tract of land from the Penteli Monastery in the 19th century.
Enlisting the aid of such distinguished architects as Kleanthis, Hansen and Georgantas, she built her palace (Rosetree Castello) as well as three residences – the Maisonette, the Plaisance and the Tourelle. The Duchess also financed many local works, including roadways.
The Palace has been completely restored and currently hosts cultural events. In honour of the Duchess, the local metro station now bears her name.
