Ancient ruins and medieval buildings scattered across the area near modern Troezen testify to the region’s importance. Following the path towards the Temple of Ipollytos, visitors can walk the same route taken by Theseus on his return to the city of his father, King Aegeus of Athens.
Preserved among the ruins are sections from the ancient wall of Troezen, as well as an auxiliary cross-wall.
Nearby, an imposing defence tower, known as the ‘Palace of Theseus’, offers a view of Vidi beach where Greek ships once harboured on the eve of the naval battle of Salamis.
