OAKA-Olympic Athletic Center of Athens

The state-of-the-art Olympic Athletic Center bears the name of Spyros Louis, who won the first Marathon run in the first modern Olympics, in 1896.

Construction of the Center and other buildings began in 1978; it was officially inaugurated in 1982 with the European Athletics Championships. Over the next 12 years, other sports facilities were constructed nearby, including the Olympic Velodrome (1991), Olympic Aquatic Centre (1991), Olympic Indoor Hall (1995) and Olympic Tennis Centre (2004).
