Widely known as the Alexandra Maternity Home, Alexandra General Hospital was founded over fifty years ago under the direction of professor Nikolaos Louros and inaugurated as a university hospital.
It is named after Princess Alexandra, the daughter of King George I, who became the Grand Duchess of Russia before dying during labour.
Since its founding, the hospital has continually expanded its services, gradually evolving into a general hospital specialising in gynaecology and cardiology.
