Listed as a natural monument and a protected wetland, the Lake of Vouliagmeni is approximately 24 kilometres from Athens.
Renowned for its healing and rejuvenating waters, the exact date of its formation is uncertain, though scientists do agree that it was created millions of years ago when the roof of a subterranean spring collapsed, forming the lake.
Today, its water maintains a temperature between 22 and 27 degrees. Its unique mixture of salts has successfully treated skin disorders, chronic back pain and various forms of arthritis. The area also has a cafe and a snack bar with a beautiful view of the lake.
