On the western side of Hydra’s harbour stands the mansion that Pavlos Koudouriotis inherited from his grandfather Georgios, a member of one of the wealthiest families of Hydra.
Built in the early 19th century, the mansion was bequeathed to Pavlos a century later. In 1991, the building was purchased by the Ministry of Culture to house the Museum of Post-Byzantine Art and History of Hydra, as well as valuable items from the Koudouriotis family.
The three-storey mansion is complemented by auxiliary buildings, a garden and a tall fence. Inside, its ceilings are made from the finest wood, while its floors are covered with exquisite tiles of black and white marble.
Admiral Pavlos Kourouriotis was buried on the hill in 1935, between the sea and the mansion.
