Commonly known as the Petraki Monastery, the Church of the Saints Asomatoi is located near the Evangelismos Hospital, within the complex housing the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. This is one of the most ancient Byzantine churches, dating to the 10th century.
The monastery’s name comes from the 17th-century owner and restorer of the church, Petros Papastamatis, a medical doctor and philosopher. The church is a four-aisled, cross-in-square building, with frescoes dating from the 18th century, said to have been painted by the famous hagiographer Georgios Markou.
