Ramnous Archaeological Site

In a small valley on the north-eastern coast of Attica lie traces of the ancient demos of Ramnous, populated by the tribe of the Aiantis. Here is the sanctuary of Nemesis, built in the 6th century BC. Prospering over the centuries, the area had been continuously inhabited since Neolithic times, and held a vital strategic position in Attica’s defence.

Excavated since the 19th century, findings include part of the ancient wall, a small theatre, artefacts and a pathway leading from the Ramnous settlement to the sanctuary of Nemesis and a stronghold dating from the Peloponnesian Wars.
