The Archaeological Society at Athens

Based on designs by architect Ioannis Antoniadis, the minimalist structure of the Archaeological Society was created in 1958 to replace the original neoclassical building, designed by Ioannis Axelos in the early 20th century. It is located at the corner of Panepistimiou and Omirou Streets.

Although the original plans called for a simple building with classic lines, and despite construction already having started, Archaeological Society officials intervened and greatly altered the original design, adding such elements as pilasters with capitals, pedestals and other Archaic elements.
