Thission Cinema

Rated by CNN as the best cinema in the world, Thission Cinema is the oldest summer cinema in Athens and one of the most beautiful, too.

Built in 1935 as a summer cinema, it has been in operation ever since. However, its long history isn’t the only thing that makes this cinema unique, as movie goers not only get to watch great films, but can also view the illuminated Acropolis in the distance.

Enjoy a simply unforgettable evening sitting beneath the stars on a warm summer night watching a film on a screen framed by climbing plants. Visitors can also enjoy incredible home-made refreshments, such as morello cherry juice, cheese pies and tsipouro. Eat your heart out Hollywood!
