A tour around Salamina

Route 1 (distance: 12.5km)
Start and end point: Nea Menemeni

Intermediate stops:
a. Ruins of the ancient monastery of Agios Nikolaos.
b. The new monastery of Agios Nikolaos.
c. The Mycenaean Acropolis, excavated by Professor G. Lolos from the University of Ioannina.
d. Kanakia Beach, where you can enjoy a meal or beverage at the local tavern.

Return: First head toward the Monastery of Agios Nikolaos and then cross the breathtaking gorge. Or consider walking to Kanakia Beach (six kilometres) and returning by car.

Choose your route based on the desired level of difficulty, with options available for beginners to seasoned hikers.

Route 2 (distance: 5km, extended routes available)
Start and end point: The house of poet Angelos Sikelianos.

Intermediate stop: The Monastery of Virgin Mary Faneromeni.

The trails in Salamina are not signposted. So it is crucial to have the right people to accompany you, as well as introduce you to the island’s many sites (archaeological, folkloric and religious).
