Are you a sea lover and enjoy getaways on a boat? Do you seek independence and flexibility in your holiday, and the privilege to access enchanting and pristine beaches that are hard to reach? In Attica you will find exactly what you are looking for, and a lot more! State-of-the-art marinas, a multitude of yacht charter companies, high-standard services and countless options on sea cruisers… in a place that is surrounded by sea, blessed with an enchanting coastline and little heaven-like islands, a stone’s throw away from Athens! Get ready for an unforgettable short break in Attica, full of sea breeze and unique routes across the crystal waters of the Saronic Gulf!
Our starting point is Flisvos Marina in Paleo Faliro, just 6 km from the centre of Athens. It is the first exclusive marina in Greece to offer large-scale mooring capacity for mega-yacht owners from Greece and abroad. With a number of international distinctions, such as 5 Gold Anchors, the highest rating in the Yacht Harbour Association (ΤΥΗΑ) awards, Flisvos Marina is a true jewel in Attica’s coastline.
Before we begin our journey, we will visit one of the landmarks of Flisvos Marina, the legendary “Georgios Averof” Battleship, which is now a museum. Next to the marina’s modern luxurious boats, we will marvel at one of the most glorious ships in later Greek history, which took part in great naval battles during the Balkan Wars, and remained active until the end of World War II.
It’s time to set out to the sea on our sailboat, exploring the Attica Riviera. A day full of historical reminiscences across Attica’s coastline, swimming in crystal blue waters and gastronomic delights with traditional Greek flavours. For a unique “closure” of the daytrip, we take an evening stroll at the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, under the moonlight.
And if the beginning of this short break in Attica thrilled you, wait until you see what comes next! We embark on an extraordinary experience of alternating landscapes and island hopping around Attica’s islands with comfort and independence, enjoying nature at its best. First stop in Aegina and arrival at the picturesque Perdika village for the first swim of the day and the first seafood mezes at the little tavernas of the area. We couldn’t possibly miss a visit at the famous Temple of Aphaia that was built in 480 BC after the Battle of Salamis, or a stroll along the narrow streets in Aegina town, for the indispensable Aegina fistiki (pistachios).
We move on to Agistri, where we will dive in the emerald waters of Dragonera and Chalikiada, two wonderful beaches with pine trees reaching all the way to the sea. Until our next stop, Poros, we relax on the deck of the sailboat and enjoy the warm touch of the sun and the sweet breeze of the sea.
As we enter the harbour of Poros we are already stunned by the enchanting image before us! The miniature town, amphitheatrically built above the harbour, invites us to explore it, walking in its narrow streets, among beautiful neoclassical mansions. The evening finds us in one of the scenic tavernas of the harbour, savouring unforgettable local flavours, before we rest and recharge batteries for the day to come that will be full of extraordinary images and experiences!
Hydra needs no introduction. It is the favourite island of international jetsetters that has a beauty of its own, stunning architecture, aesthetic quality and a relaxing atmosphere that is hard to find. Here we will walk along the narrow paved streets of the town, before we take the boat to Agios Nikolaos beach, for swimming in emerald waters and snorkeling. We continue to Kaminia, another wonderful beach in Hydra with tavernas for the necessary lunch break.
Full speed ahead to Spetses, the Saronic island with the sophisticated atmosphere and the timeless charm! What about a ride along the promenade on a horse-drawn carriage? Or would you prefer to “lose yourselves” in the paved narrow alleys of the town, with the stunning mansions and the blooming house front yards? Poseidonion Grand Hotel, an architectural jewel of Spetses, awaits us for a cup of coffee and dessert in its staggering spaces, before we set off to Zogeria beach, with the dense trees casting their shade on the crystal waters, for our afternoon swim. Before we retreat for a good night’s sleep in Spetses, we will taste the delicious local recipes in one of the tavernas in Dapia.
En route to Flisvos Marina we realise that never before was the return from a daytrip so delightful! Sailing in crystal blue waters and stopping at lush green coves for swimming. Enjoying the route on the deck of the sailboat, listening to your favourite music, reading a book or chatting with your fellow travellers. A short break in Attica that you really don’t want to end!
