Museum of National Resistance of Ilioupoli

The Museum of National Resistance of Ilioupoli, Municipality of Ilioupoli, is a monument to the struggles of the Greek people against the threefold occupation of Axis forces. In the Museum’ s modern facilities you can find rich exhibits of the long-suffering and heroic period of the National Resistance (1941-1944), memorabilia of a dark period of the Modern Greek history, which is glorified by the inconceivable bravery and heroism attitude of the Greek people against fascism and nazism.
Through the museum’s collection (documentation, newspapers, notices, illegal type tools, magazines, photos, military uniforms, war weapons, paintings, etc) the visitor is given an image of a wider historical puzzle that depicts eloquently the troubled period from the beginning of the Greek-Italian War (1940), the German invasion of Greece (6 April 1941) up to the liberation of the country (October 1944).
The museum has a library containing specialized books on the National Resistance and general historical content also, available to every researcher. There is also a multi-purpose hall which can host 150 people, and gallery containing works of the painter and member of national resistance Themistoklis Karfakis.
