Founded in 1578 by bishop Evripos Timotheos, a local saint of Attica, the all-male Penteli Monastery was built amid the lush greenery at the foot of Mount Penteli.
Working in collaboration with the municipality of Maroussi, the famous shadow-theatre artist Eugene Spatharis created a permanent home for Karagiozis (a traditional figure in Greek folklore).
The Cooperative covers four acres and houses over 40 potters. Its aim is to educate elementary- and secondary-school students in Attica, and educate its thousands of annual visitors about the art of ceramics.
