Spathareio Shadow Theatre Museum

Working in collaboration with the municipality of Maroussi, the famous shadow-theatre artist Eugene Spatharis created a permanent home for Karagiozis (a traditional figure in Greek folklore).

Founded in 1991, the museum features workshops, Karagiozi shows, exhibitions and other theatrical activities. Currently located in a beautiful neoclassical building that opened in 1995, the museum also offers courses and specialised programmes for students and the general public.

Eugene Spatharis’ great love of people, especially children, and dedication to Karagiozi has ensured that this important part of the Greek cultural tradition will be preserved, and will continue to attract new friends.
