Considered one of the most important Byzantine monuments in Athens, the church of Agioi Theodoroi is located on Evripidou Street in Klafthmonos Square.
This simple, double-column cruciform church was built in the mid-11th century on top of the ruins of an even older church. Founded by Byzantine official Nikolaos Kalomalos, the structure is outlined by a crenellated strip of small ceramic plates with decorative patterns. The belfry, built at a later date, incorporates marble pieces taken from the church’s temple, and the interior frescoes were painted in the 20th century, primarily by artist Athanassios Kandris.
The building is no longer a parish church, but a chapel.
